A recent issue of The Global Food Security (GFS) programme’s Insight series, which intends to provide a “balanced analysis of food related research for use by policy-makers and practitioners”, explores aquatic farming in the UK.
Finding that the industry’s growth factor is currently outpacing human population increase, the report promotes aquatic farming of animals and plants as a viable source for high quality protein to feed the future. Professor Tim Benton (of the GFS) further highlights the timeliness of this report, stating: “The latest report from the Insight series discusses aquaculture in the UK, at a time when the UK is in the process of producing a Multinational Plan for the sustainable development of the industry.”
