Towards ecologically and socially resilient food systems

This report from the UK’s Triodos Bank calls for a radical overhaul of the food system with a focus on environmental sustainability, healthy diets, and fair pay for farmers.

Specific recommendations of the report include:

  • A reduction in food waste
  • A move towards ‘circular economy’ solutions
  • A reduction in reliance on fossil fuels
  • A move towards an 80 percent plant-based and 20 percent animal-based diet
  • A focus on locally and sustainably produced foods
  • Pricing structures that reflect the true cost of food
  • Fairer distribution of prosperity
  • Governmental support for farmers shifting away from intensive farming
