This report from the US National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine identifies emerging scientific advances that could help to make the US food system more resilient to rapid changes and extreme conditions, as well as making agriculture more efficient and sustainable.

Some of the areas discussed by the report are:

  • A systems approach for understanding interactions between different elements of the food system and identifying leverage points for action.
  • Sensors for rapidly monitoring conditions in food production and processing.
  • Data science for better analysis of the food system.
