New thesis: Worldwide Alternatives to Animal Derived Foods – Overview and Evaluation Models

FCRN mailing list member Kurt Schmidinger has recently been awarded his thesis on the following subject: "Worldwide Alternatives to Animal Derived Foods – Overview and Evaluation Models", subtitle "Solutions to Global Problems caused by Livestock".

The thesis comprises three parts as follows:

• Part one: The global problems of the production of 65 billion farm animals per year on environment & climate, world nutrition, animal welfare and human health.

• Part two: Elaboration of new ethical and economic evaluation methods for foods, especially for livestock products and their alternatives.

• Part three: A global overview of the wide variety of existing alternatives to meat, egg products and dairy products globally, with some of them evaluated by applying the new evaluation methods.  It also includes an overview of in vitro meat and a discussion of how we might / should eat in the future.
