Human Rights Watch has reported that the Israeli government is starving civilians, a recognized war crime, as a military tactic. High ranking Israeli officials have publicly supported a complete blockage of humanitarian aid including food and water.
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) reported on December 3 a “high risk of famine,” which demonstrates the dire condition of Gaza’s food system. The agricultural sector has been devastated by these military actions. Sustained bombardment, fuel and water shortages, and the mass displacement of civilians in southern Gaza has made arable and livestock farming practically impossible.
The article presents satellite imagery, interviews with farmers, and statements from humanitarian aid organisations as evidence to the real military action including the destruction of Gaza’s last operation wheat mill. Human Rights Watch has reviewed these documents and indicates that “orchards, greenhouses, and farmland in northern Gaza have been razed.” There is extreme concern for food security and livelihood in Gaza as a result of targeted starvation military action.
