Danish government scraps fat tax

The Danish government has officially ended its tax on saturated fat just a year after it was introduced, and has cancelled a proposed sugar tax.

The fat and sugar taxes have been criticised for increasing prices (about €2.15 per kilo of saturated fat in foods) for consumers and companies alike.

We have a number of Danish FCRN  members – if any of you has a view on the abolition of the tax, or can point us to any analysis by the Danish health and environmental communities as well as the food industry we would welcome your input.  You can do this by Adding a Comment directly under this article online (you will need to be logged in to do this) or by starting a forum discussion thread here.
