This report from the FAO’s High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE) explores how agroecology and other innovative approaches to food systems (such as organic agriculture, agroforestry, permaculture, climate-smart agriculture, nutrition-sensitive agriculture and sustainable intensification) can support sustainable agriculture and food security.
The report’s recommendations include:
- Food system stakeholders should consider how agroecology and other approaches could be integrated into food systems.
- States and intergovernmental bodies should support a transition towards diversified and resilient food systems.
- Support transdisciplinary research and training, while addressing power imbalances in the generation and sharing of knowledge.
- Strengthen the ability of stakeholders, especially marginalised groups, to exert agency over their food systems.
- Establish and use comprehensive performance measurement and monitoring frameworks for food systems.
