Technofixes: A Critical Guide to Climate Change Technologies

This report, "Technofixes: A Critical Guide to Climate Change Technologies", by the organisation Corporate Watch investigates the large scale technologies that corporations and governments are proposing and developing, including hydrogen, agrofuels, carbon capture, biomass, electricity from nuclear, solar, wind and water, as well as a range of ideas to reflect the sun's energy or remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

This report considers these technologies and identifies what does and does not work, the present state of these industries and where they are heading. The authors argue that, because technologies are being chosen for their profitability rather than effectiveness, some proposed solutions would actually lead to an increase in emissions and many would bring about great social injustice. They also say that the promise of a future technofix is being used as a stalling tactic by those who want to keep on burning fossil fuels.

There is also an analysis of the more far-flung geoengineering solutions (great big sun umbrella, seeking the oceans with iron etc).
