Special issue on food security in Science: Measuring Food Insecurity

The journal Science has published a special issue on food security.

A particularly interesting paper on measuring food security is Barrett C B (2010). Measuring Food Insecurity, in Science 12 February 2010: 825-828.

This paper discusses food insecurity - how it is measured, and how approaches to measuring (and to ways of responding) can be improved. The author includes a very interesting chart that illustrates how different indicators of food insecurity yield different results.

What's striking is that, measured in terms of food production, the last 20 years have seen great improvements - but this is not the case for the other indicators.
