Sally Cairns explores the environmental implications of food shopping

Work by Sally Cairns explores the environmental implications of food shopping. Cairns draws upon research which suggests that home shopping for food items generates less overall transport than individual customer travel to store.

She points out, however, that ’These conclusions are made in the context that food shopping accounts for only a small proportion of total motorised travel, although it generates a significant amount of travel in absolute terms.’
