New knowledge-sharing initiative to measure and reduce food loss and waste

The FAO announce the launch of their new initiative: The Technical Platform on the Measurement and Reduction of Food Loss and Waste.

The aim of the platform is to allow major stakeholders in G20 countries and elsewhere to share knowledge and best practice with respect to reducing food waste and losses, allowing global cooperation in tackling this problem. The initiative builds on existing programmes, including the Global Community of Practice on Food Loss Reduction and the World Resources Institute’s Food Loss and Waste Protocol, as well as work by other organisations (SAVE FOOD Network and the CGIAR Research Program on Policies, Institutions, and Markets (PIM)). The ultimate aim of the initiative is to reduce the food insecurity and environmental implications of food waste and loss.
