The report looks at what what action is taking place across the world to measure farming’s impact on sustainability, through the use of metrics such as carbon, biodiversity, water and social outcomes. It describes the positions of governments, farmers, scientists, NGOs, retailers, brand manufacturers, food service companies and consumers on the use of sustainability metrics. It considers selected problems associated with individual methods and provides an overview on harmonisation.
