How food procurement can make a climate difference

This blog post by Public Health England highlights the the UK food and agriculture industry’s contribution to global climate change and environmental degradation, and the steps the Government is taking or has taken in light of this.

Notably making changes to the Government Buying Standards (GBS). The GBS, produced by Defra, provides guidance for all Government departments on both mandatory and best practice recommendations for procuring all and any resources used by each department in a sustainable way. First produced in 2012, the GBS was updated in 2015 to include a number of new recommendations, including updates to the recommendations for Government food and catering services.
