EU publishes plans for CAP reform

The European Commission has published its plans to reform the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) after 2013. Among the measures suggested, it includes proposing to spend 30% of direct payments specifically for the improved use of natural resources. These measures include crop diversification, maintenance of permanent pasture and the preservation of environmental reservoirs and landscapes.

Defra is ‘disappointed’ and thinks the proposals should go further. Both WWF and Friends of the Earth  think they are weak. The NFU and the CLA are not very happy not very happy either.

But the Soil Association likes the proposals.

If any FCRN members have their own views on the CAP proposals, please do input your comments (which you can do directly on the FCRN website underneath this piece)
