At least a dozen companies are teaming up to estimate the greenhouse gas footprint of specific farming systems and talk with farmers to figure out how to reduce that footprint as rapidly and efficiently as possible. The Global Agriculture Climate Assessment, led by the Sustainable Food Lab in collaboration with Unilever and SAI Platform, will be assessing GHG emissions and mitigation options for farming systems in 13 countries. The initiative engages farmers to identify management options for reducing net emissions with help from the practical, farm level calculator - the Cool Farm Tool. The global reach and supply chain approach of the Assessment enables food companies, suppliers and farmers to evaluate and improve the carbon footprint of their products as well as benefit from joint learning within a consortium of leaders in the food and farming sector.
