This is the third in a series of reports in which the organisation Consumer Focus rates the UK's top nine supermarkets on how well they inform consumers about sustainability issues and help them make more sustainable choices.
The previous two reports were published in 2006 and 2007. The indicators against which the supermarkets were measured were: climate change, waste, sustainable fish and sustainable farming.
Marks & Spencer and Sainsbury's came top overall with an A rating, followed by Waitrose, also with an A. The Co-op, Morrisons and Tesco got Cs and Aldi, Morrisons and Lidl got Ds.
