The Society of Chemical Industries (SCI) and the Institute of Professional Soil Scientists (IPSS) held a conference on 8 October 2009 at the SCI's headquarters in London.
The conference explored how the ecosystem services approach is being applied to soil and, looked at the principles of the ecosystem service approach and how it is being applied in practice across a number of specific fields. Presentations were on the following topics:
- The ecosystem services approach
- Service based approaches to soil protection
- Valuation of soil ecosystem services
- Soil and the carbon economy
- Land use planning
- Regenerating brownfield sites for biomass
- Forestry
- Sports turf and ecosystem services
