A letter written by Wayne Martindale (an FCRN mailing list member) and Anthony Trewavas in a 2008 issue of Nature Biotechnology argues for a more nuanced assessment of the merits and disbenefits of various different biofuels and in particular highlights the need for developing 2nd and 3rd generation biofuels and argues that GM crops need to play a part here.
The letter takes a largely EU focus, placing its discussion in the context of the UN bioenergy and IAASTD reports.
