We are pleased to announce that the Seaweed Academy has partnered with WWF UK and the Michael Uren Foundation (MUF) to offer individuals a place on our Seaweed Academy Industry Overview Course scheduled for the 27th to the 31st of January 2025. Below are the criteria for applying for a WWF/MUF scholarship for the Seaweed Academy. These scholarships will cover the entire course fee as well as a small bursary for travel and accommodation for the duration of the course. The value of the bursary is £800 and administered by WWF.
Please outline in your application how you will meet the criteria below, as scholarship places will be assigned based on fit against the criteria.
Criteria:
- Applicants must be based in the UK.
- Of the 5 scholarships, we will insure that one scholarship will go to each of the devolved nations to encourage equal opportunity for growth of the seaweed sector across the UK.
- Early-career individuals (must be over 18)
- Those already in aquaculture and/or agriculture who want to learn more about the seaweed sector and aquaculture diversification
- Those already involved in seaweed aquaculture and/or interested in entering into the later stages of the seaweed value chain (from processing onwards).
- Applicants who are women, particularly those looking to enter the seaweed industry for the first time or return to work after maternity leave, are encouraged to apply.
- Those unconnected to industry but living in a coastal community and are interested in how seaweed aquaculture could fit into where they live.
- Applicants with protected characteristics and from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply, including disability*, gender, sexuality, race and ethnicity, age, religion or beliefs.
*While reasonable adjustments will be made, a minimum physical agility is required to access some aspects of this course, we are happy to discuss if further information is required.

The scholarship selection process will occur after the 13th of December and applicants will be informed by the 21st of December of the success of their application.
