Job: Researcher/writer, TABLE, University of Oxford, UK

Date
TABLE

We are seeking a researcher/writer to work for TABLE www.tabledebates.org.  TABLE is a global platform for knowledge synthesis, reflective, critical thinking and inclusive stakeholder dialogue on priority concerns and contestations around the future of food. It seeks to facilitate informed discussions about how the food system can become sustainable, resilient, just, and ultimately “good,” and to out the evidence, assumptions, and values that people bring to food system debates.

The successful candidate will be writing clear, balanced and thoughtful analytical pieces for professionals who work in the food systems space.  These include people working for NGOs, policy makers, the food industry as well as students and academics. These pieces will be peer reviewed and published on the TABLE website and as such will be read by a large and global audience. You will draw upon various materials, including our podcasts, webinars and our online dialogue platform (currently in development) as well as on literature reviews. The goal is to help stakeholders reach a better understanding of the reasons for food related agreements and disagreements, while highlighting areas that hold promise for more collaborative thinking and consensus. You will also collaborate with other team members in the production of short explanatory videos, in organising events and other TABLE activities, and speaking as appropriate.  You will manage your own academic research and administrative activities in a highly independent and proactive manner.

You must hold, or be close to completion of, a PhD/DPhil in a relevant discipline or have at a minimum a Master’s degree and very considerable experience of research and writing in a field such as journalism or as a researcher for an NGO or think tank. You will have excellent and demonstrable understanding of issues relating to food systems and sustainability. Excellent writing skills with demonstrable ability to write in a critically engaged, balanced, and impartial way for non-specialist audiences is essential. You will have experience in conducting stakeholder interviews.

This is a full-time post offered until 31 December 2024.
