The new social sciences research institute is a contract research organisation and is the result of a merger of two existing institutes, Wageningen Centre for Development Innovation (WCDI) and Wageningen Economic Research (WEcR). It is a social and economic research institute that supports sustainable, inclusive and just food and eco systems transformations, contributing to socioeconomic equity and planetary health around the world. Together with the Wageningen University Department of Social Sciences it forms the Social Sciences Group (SSG), one of Wageningen University & Research’s five science groups.

Job Description:
As the Institute Manager Global Food System Transformations, you will play a crucial role in steering the institute toward its strategic goals. In collaboration with two other Institute Managers, you will lead a globally influential institute, ensuring optimal performance and financial stability. Your responsibilities include developing and implementing the strategy, external representation and achieving results together with the team leaders.

The domain of the Institute Manager Global Food System Transformations demands urgent and necessary food systems transformations worldwide, but with a particular geographic focus on Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategy development and realisation.
  • Inclusive thought leadership and management, with a focus on collaboration and coaching.
  • External representation and collaboration to enhance the institute’s visibility.
  • Achieving collaborative results and financial stability.
  • Acquisition and portfolio management on a global scale.

A strategic management team (SMT) will manage the institute. The team will consist of the SSG Managing Director, the SSG Director of Operations and three Institute Managers, each with a focus on a specific domain: (1) Global Food System Transformations, (2) Agricultural Policy and Data Management, and (3) Sustainable and Innovative Value Chains.

Your Profile:

  • Substantive and relevant leadership experience in a managerial position(50+ FTE) in International Development, preferably in Africa, Asia, or Latin America.
  • Experience with managing a knowledge organisation and collaborating with various stakeholders, such as academic, governmental, private sector and civil society stakeholders particularly in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
  • Strong international network and experience in global partnerships.
  • Academic background in social, economic and/or life sciences, preferably with a PhD.
  • Fluent in both Dutch and English, willingness to learn Dutch if necessary.
