Advertiser's description (via Compassion in World Farming):
We are seeking a passionate Policy Officer to join our team in Brussels, and play a key role in advancing our mission to create a world where farmed animals are treated with compassion and respect.
About CIWF
Compassion in World Farming International is a leading global organisation dedicated to ending factory farming worldwide. We were founded in 1967 by Peter Roberts, a British farmer alarmed by the rise of factory farming. Over the past 50 years, we have made major strides in abolishing inhumane practices such as barren battery cages, veal crates, and sow gestation crates in the UK and Europe.
Our approach involves campaigning, advocacy, and engagement with policymakers at national, intergovernmental, and corporate levels, building a movement of individuals concerned about animal welfare and the health and sustainability of our food. We are driven by a passion for animal welfare and food system change, believing in a future where animals are treated with compassion and respect, and where sustainable farming practices prevail for a healthy planet.
Our international headquarters are in Godalming (UK), with team members in 14 countries on four continents including the US, Italy, France, Poland, the Netherlands, Spain, Czechia, China, and a specialist policy office in Brussels.
About the role
As part of this exciting role, you will be at the heart of CIWF’s advocacy efforts in Brussels, helping to shape EU policy on animal welfare, agriculture, and food systems. You will be responsible for monitoring and analysing key policy developments, tracking stakeholder positions, and providing valuable insights to guide our strategic approach.
In this role, you will build strong relationships with key stakeholders in the EU institutions and represent CIWF in relevant EU forums, ensuring our voice is heard on important legislative matters. You will also contribute to coalition-building efforts with like-minded organisations to amplify our impact. Additionally, you will prepare policy briefings, position papers, and other materials to effectively communicate our priorities to internal and external audiences, while supporting the day-to-day operations of the Brussels office.
About you
To succeed in this role, you will need experience in EU public affairs, ideally in a policy-focused position within Brussels. A solid understanding of the EU policy-making process and the ability to track and analyse developments will be crucial. You should be organised, able to manage multiple tasks, and comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively with a team.
Strong communication skills are essential, as you will be required to engage with a variety of stakeholders and prepare clear, concise policy materials. You should be able to represent CIWF in different settings and contribute effectively to discussions. A keen interest in animal welfare and a commitment to making a positive impact in the sector will be important in driving your work.
Join us on a collective mission to shape a compassionate future for farm animals worldwide, while experiencing a workplace that truly cares for you.
