An independent group of academics from across the globe are launching an expert panel to put the science back into the debate on livestock and climate change.

The panel are volunteering their expertise to journalists and policy makers to help unpack the evidence on livestock’s role in fuelling the climate crisis and the potential and limitations of solutions from methane vaccines to dietary change.

The initiative is being launched on World Food Day and ahead of COP28 where hosts, the UAE, are urging governments to include food and agriculture into national climate plans for the first time. Governments will also update on progress under the Global Methane Pledge.

During the webinar the panel will outline their aims and the latest science. They will also comment on international efforts to address livestock methane and answer questions.

Mario Herrero - Professor of Sustainable Food Systems and Global Change, Cornell University in the US, and lead author for the IPCC and the upcoming Eat-Lancet 2.0 report.

Ngonidzashe Chirinda - Professor of Sustainable Tropical Agriculture, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Morocco and IPCC lead author.
