The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) has released a report on the water, food and energy nexus, entitled “Co-optimizing Solutions: Water and Energy for Food, Feed and Fiber.”
It provides an overview of the benefits of tackling these challenges in an integrated way and focuses on smart and scalable solutions to meet the interconnected water, energy and food, feed and fibre challenges that arise from increased demand for agricultural products – itself a consequence of population growth and changing consumption patterns. It also discusses projections for future demand for food, fibre and fodder under business-as-usual scenarios and includes analyses of the implications of land management, water use, energy requirements and climate change on agriculture.
