Environmental Benefits of Recycling published by the government-funded Waste Resources Action Programme (WRAP), looks at the contribution that recycling makes to reducing CO2.
It estimates that current UK recycling saves 10-15 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent greenhouse gases a year (note: the UK's total GHG emissions are about 656 mill tonnes). This is equivalent to taking 3.5 million cars off the road.

The WRAP study has reviewed and analysed Life Cycle Analysis studies from all around the world, evaluating the environmental impacts of recycling compared to incineration or landfilling for seven of the most commonly recycled materials.
