Short-term Consultancy with FAO and Dr Mehroosh Tak, RVC: factors determining supply, demand and consumption of terrestrial animal-source food

The FAO are conducting an assessment on the contribution of livestock to food security, sustainable food systems, nutrition and healthy diets. Under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of the assessment on contribution of livestock to human nutrition, and in close collaboration with the Senior Nutrition and Food Systems Officer, ESN, the incumbent will support the development of the component document on the Assessment related to factors determining supply, demand and consumption of terrestrial animal-source food. The incumbent will prepare a study determining what drives diversification and availability of terrestrial animal source foods at cross-country level.  

In particular, the incumbent will:  

  • Extract data from FAOSTAT and other data sources  
  • Clean the extracted data and create a panel dataset on STATA or R. Ideally the dataset should balanced  
  • Use panel data methods to analyse the cross-country data on drivers of TASF national food supply  
  • Draft the study  
  • Perform other related duties as required 

The consultancy would ideally suit a post doc, a PhD student or an MSc graduate with at least 2 years of quantitative analysis experience.  

The consultant will work under the supervision of Dr Mehroosh Tak from The Royal Veterinary College, University of London. The consultancy will be contracted directly by FAO. The level of effort is expected to be 60 working days. The work should start as soon as possible and should be conducted on a full time basis.
